Step-by-Step Setup Guide
1. Prepare the MOLLE 4K Rucksack
Before attaching the HSPR-M, secure the MOLLE 4K to ensure all straps and components are in order:
- Compression Straps: Roll and secure any excess webbing on the front, side, and accessory pouch compression straps.
- Shoulder Straps: Tighten and S-fold any extra length, securing it with retainer bands.
- Waist Belt and Chest Strap: Roll and tuck excess webbing neatly to avoid snags.
2. Create Loops for the Lowering Line
The hook pile tape lowering line requires two loops for attachment:
- Use two retainer bands to create a girth hitch.
- Attach one loop to the nylon equipment hanger at the bottom of the rucksack frame.
- Attach the second loop just below the compression strap.
3. Expose the Friction Adapters
To prepare the rucksack for harness attachment:
- Open the snap fasteners on the friction adapter storage pockets.
- Pull out the protective covers to expose the friction adapters.
- Flip the rucksack upside down to access the air item storage pocket, then open it fully.
- Tuck the flap of the air item storage pocket behind the rucksack frame.
4. Attach Equipment Retainer Straps
- Feed the adjustable equipment retainer straps through the air item storage pocket’s routing channels.
- Ensure the straps are properly aligned and free of twists.
- Insert the release handle cables into the cross strap, ensuring the manufacturer’s recommended half twist for proper operation.
5. Connect Leg Strap Release Assemblies
- Attach the adjustable equipment ring attaching straps:
- Ensure the snap hook is facing downward.
- Follow the sequence: Green through white over red (Italian flag sequence).
- Secure the female portion of the leg strap release assembly:
- Feed the red loop through the grommet.
- Thread the release handle cable through the loop and cable retainer.
- Repeat for the opposite side.
6. Route Equipment Retainer Straps
- Pass the straps through at least one set of air item routing channels on the front side of the rucksack.
- Secure the straps through the friction adapters, ensuring there are no twists.
- Tighten the straps and check their tension using a “two- to three-finger quick release” method.
- S-fold any extra webbing and secure it with retainer bands.
7. Attach the Hook Pile Tape Lowering Line
- Position the lowering line from north to south (never east to west).
- Route the line over the adjustable shoulder carrying strap, securing it with retainer bands.
- Check alignment and tension for proper functionality.
8. Final Adjustments and Inspection
- Connect the male portion of the leg strap release assemblies to the female portion, creating adjustable leg straps.
- Roll or fold any excess webbing and secure it with retainers.
- Perform a final inspection to ensure all straps and components are properly secured and configured for the jump.
